Structured cabling, KNX bus wiring and electrical work

We run the KNX bus cable, the network cabling and the mains wiring as one job, under our own electrical qualification. Cable is the one layer software cannot fix later, so we design it before it goes into the wall. Every run is measured and documented.

Structured cabling: what goes where

The backbone is a central rack or distribution point, with Cat6/6A runs going out in a star. Access points, cameras and indoor units take power over PoE, so they need no socket beside them. Spare runs are not a luxury: the run you do not use today is the one that saves the extension from opening walls in three years.

  • Choosing the rack or distribution location, cooling and power
  • Cat6/6A runs to APs, cameras and indoor units
  • Sizing the PoE budget, selecting the switch
  • Bus cable route kept separate from the mains
  • Commissioning and per-run documentation

Mains wiring and bus cabling as one job

Controllability is decided in the distribution board. Splitting the lighting circuits, distributing the neutral in the switch boxes, the depth behind the faceplate and the space beside the MCBs are all decisions that belong in the electrical design. We do this as one job, so you do not end up with two contractors pointing at each other.

Cabling for CCTV, alarm and access control

Security equipment is part of the same structured cabling, not a separate system — and that is exactly what decides whether it can later work as one system. Cameras take power and data over PoE on a single cable, the alarm panel and door contacts run on their own segment, and the intercom and access control go where the release actually needs controlling. We run those routes together with the electrical design.

  • ONVIF-compatible cameras with local recording — footage never goes to a cloud
  • Plate and face recognition running locally: gate release, zone arming, lighting
  • Alarm panel and zones wired in and bridged to the controller
  • Intercom and access control, electric lock release
  • A separate VLAN for cameras, off the household network

During a renovation: what to run now, and what to prepare

If a renovation is on the table, cabling is the decision that cannot be retrofitted cheaply later. You do not have to build the whole system at once — but the routes and the spare runs have to go in while the wall is open. We go through what is needed today and what only needs preparing: backbone runs, the bus route, the distribution location, camera segments. Preparing costs a fraction of opening walls later.

A finished flat: what works without opening walls

In an occupied property, behind-the-faceplate modules and wireless devices carry the work. The constraint is in the switch box: whether there is a neutral, and whether there is depth behind the module. That can be checked in advance. During the survey we inspect the boxes and the phases, and the answer comes after the survey, not during installation.

what we fix

The situations people bring us for this

Symptom, cause, intervention. These are the most common situations people bring to us — most of them do not need a new system, only a survey and a clean-up of the existing one.

Retrofit automation in a finished flat, without opening walls

RADIO on-site
Symptom · cause · fix Close
Symptom
A finished, occupied flat or house. Opening walls is off the table, but lighting, shading and heating control are needed.
Typical cause
No neutral in the wall box, not enough depth behind the faceplate, or the existing switch layout does not support the number of circuits wanted.
What we do
We work with modules that fit behind the faceplate and with wireless devices. We check the boxes and the phases first — if there is no neutral, you hear that up front, not during installation.

Bringing a mixed system under one interface

CONTROLLER on-site
Symptom · cause · fix Close
Symptom
KNX on the lighting, Shelly on the blinds, Zigbee on the sensors, a separate app for each — and none of them aware of the others.
Typical cause
The layers were built separately, there is no common controller looking across them, and no single place where the automation logic lives.
What we do
We bring the layers under one controller through gateways and move the logic to one place, while the bus keeps working on its own if the controller goes down.

CCTV, alarm and plate recognition in one system

DEVICE on-site
Symptom · cause · fix Close
Symptom
A separate camera system, a separate alarm, a separate app for each — and when something actually happens, none of them knows about the others.
Typical cause
Security equipment is traditionally built as a closed, vendor-locked system with cloud recording and its own app. It cannot see into the automation layer, and the automation layer cannot see into it.
What we do
We install ONVIF-compatible cameras and wire the alarm panel into the controller, with local recording — the footage never leaves the building. Plate and face recognition run locally, so they can open a gate, switch lighting or arm a zone without any cloud.

what we do

The other layers of the stack

A system rarely stops at one layer. We handle these too, as part of the same installation.

Describe what is installed today and where you got stuck. You do not need a finished plan — the point of the consultation is to work out what is realistic. The more specific you are (protocols, devices, controller), the more precise an answer we can give, even without a site visit.
